  • Well its only 5 days to go until our mini festival in Aid of Too Many Women, Get Oyne It! Oyne is the village that we live in in Aberdeenshire. Things are getting tense as organisation is the key!! Lists are being made, the bouncy castle and poraloos are being finalised and a trip to Costco is arranged. We did have a spit roast, then we didn’t, but now we do again! I suddenly remembered water… we can’t have everyone stuck up a hill in the middle of no-where for 24 hrs without water- eek. Mustn’t forget bins too, its the simple things that are forgotten at times like these!
The bands are all confirmed but that’s tonight’s job. We need to find out set lengths and then make times so everyone knows what they are doing. The djs are all set but we mustn’t forget tarpaulin in case there is sideways rain on the day- oh yes, sideways rain is a speciality in the Shire. The gazeebos should hold off the vertical drops but we don’t want that equipment blowing up and ruining the fun. Ok better get on, better Get Oyne It!!

  • oh no, I had a phone call this morning saying the pig had fallen through. Fallen through what I’m not sure, but we need to find one fast. We called around all the local butchers but at such short notice its a bit tricky. I found Butcher John who said that he might be able to help but we’d just missed his pigs going to slaughter. As a result there would be a carriage charge on top of the hearty cost of the 50kg pig. OOOO, I wasn’t sure.
I told him all about the event and the cause and now we have one pig sent off for slaughter this morning, with no carriage charge and money off- woop! Only thing I hadn’t anticipated was having to collect it at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning, that means getting up at 5.30. Its going to be a long day!

  • Another blip- One band has dropped out. We need to find some more live music. However husband Wanna-be-DJ-Paul has been up most of last night making playlists to play in between sets. Oh how he loves his music- let’s just hope everyone else does too!
Right I’m off to collect the strimmer, camping area needs attention. Those hidden rocks and holes need exposing before people pitch their tents!

  • [...] Winky Skevington has organised a brilliant all day & night music festival with camping, for the 24th July.  It is in Aberdeenshire in her village called Oyne, so the event is called “Get Oyne it”! She is raising money through ticket sales, food (spit roast and pasta) and through the bar. All of the live bands and djs are playing for free and people who just come for the day are making donations. • OOO, its Friday now. One day to go!! I’ve just had a brain wave. I’m going to serve chips and pizza along with the pasta from my stable door. That should raise a bit more money. I also suddenly remembered about tea and coffee for Sunday morning. Might be a life saver for those driving home! Tony has just delivered 4 hay bales from our store on the other side of the farm, kindly leaving a donation as he left and the plumber came to fix our brown water, also leaving a donation on the table. Ahh, what champions.

Our house is serviced from our very own well at the bottom of the hill. However when it rains the silt gets into the water and the filter has to work so hard that it gets saturated. Hence our water starts going brown and we are advised not to drink it. Trust that to happen the day before Get Oyne it, when 99 revelers will be drinking from our outdoor tap! Anyway problem fixed… for now. The well issue is a story for another day.

Another wee problem is the lawn. We’ve only just built it, and when I say built it, I literally mean that we pilled earth on top of earth until we had a flat area. The wild shrub land used to just slope down away from the house! For weeks, we painstakingly raked and seeded the lawn until we have this greeny patch of land we can finally almost call a lawn. However we didn’t anticipate waterlogging and on advice, I tipped more earth on top of the pond that was forming. As a result, we now have a muddy patch right in front of where the bands are playing- well done Winky! Paul however has cleverly dragged wooden planks left over from the build, up to the house and together we placed them over the mud. Now it just looks like a dance floor- clever! Paul also came home with laminated signs last night and has attached them to posts, ready to go.
Ok, got to go to the wholesalers now with Ian to get some supplies. Have I mentioned Ian yet? He’s a mate from Aberdeen whose been helping put together this event. Shout out to Ian!

  • Can’t remember if I said that we’ve found 2 more bands to play which is great- phew! Also my plumber mentioned that his kids are playing at the Wizard festival. After I clarified that weren’t 5 years old as I had thought, I asked if they were around tomorrow. It turns out that they are actually only 12- ahhh, but might well be up for playing! Now that would be cute and you never know, we might have uncovered the new Hanson.
This might be the last blog till after the event as we’re all busy putting up gazeebos (which we’ve just found out are missing parts- disorganised? Not us), borrowing wheelie bins from neighbours, setting up amps, rolling hay bales into position, unpacking the Macro shopping, setting up tables and welcoming our helpers. Oh here more of them come, beeping their horn as they arrive! Here we go….
